Drywall

Wondering how many sheets of drywall it will take to cover that new room? Let us help with your shopping list before heading to the home improvement store. Just fill in the basic dimensions in the fields below and we'll do the math, including estimates on how many fasteners, rolls of joint tape and buckets of all-purpose joint compound it will take to do the job.

Tips:

  • Leave fields in the calculator blank if they do not apply. For instance, if you're just hanging drywall on walls, leave the ceiling field blank.

  • If covering the ceiling and walls of a room, always do the ceiling first.

  • When choosing between screws and nails for fasteners, remember that drywall screws provide a more secure bond.

  • Space fasteners about every six inches apart when hanging drywall on walls and every four inches apart when working on ceilings.

  • Position drywall so that the edges always fall in the center of a wall stud or ceiling joist.
